Greetings, Princes, Princesses and Dragons all! Welcome once again to News, Sports and Weather. I’m your host, Cimmorene.
In the previous report, we promised to inform you about the success of teacher and our adopted daughter, Lucy Tock’s return to England. Following a week of stress, depression and illness, Lucy has swung back into her life like a champion. We are pleased to report that she continues to make progress into her recovery.
In the News this week, the family celebrated 3 Kings Day with a Rosca de Reyes and stockings filled with more loot. 3 Kings Day, also known as Epiphany or the Feast of the Epiphany, which takes place on the twelfth day of Christmas (usually 6 January) celebrates the finding of the Christ child by the wise men of the east, which happened around 2 years following the birth of Christ. According to tradition, they followed the Christ’s new star for twelve days and nights until they reached Bethlehem, bringing three symbolic gifts: gold, frankincense and myrrh, in recognition that this was the person that gave them the blessings of the holy temple. Many Christians, such as the Catholics, the Spanish and the Latin American cultures celebrate it, each culture in their own way. The family at the Dragon’s Lair has celebrated it for the past few years as a cross between an extension of Christmas and a reminder that the wise men of the East didn’t arrive until much later following the birth of Christ.
In Sports this week, the Seahawks only just managed to beat the Minnesota Vikings 10-9. The Tri-City Herald reported as follows. “The Vikings, after gritting through this grind-it-out wild-card round playoff game, booted their chance to beat the two-time defending NFC champions. Blair Walsh’s 27-yard field goal try into the frigid wind hooked left with 22 seconds remaining, handing the Seahawks a 10-9 victory over the stunned Vikings on a Sunday in below-zero weather that tied for the third-coldest NFL game on record. ‘A lot of people would’ve folded up and said, ‘That’s it,’ but we’ve got a team full of fighters,’ Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman said.” We at the Dragon’s Lair offer our congratulations to the Seahawks for their astounding determination and verve. Better luck next time, Minnesota.
In Weather this week, the children of the Dragon’s Lair were granted yet another 2 hour delay, the first of the New Year, though not for snowfall. The delay came on the heels of a spate of freezing rain. Needless to say, the Dragon’s Lair children were highly disappointed, though grateful for the extra sleep this delay gave them.
That’s all the news from the Dragon’s Lair. Be sure to return next week when we’ll give you yet another dose of reality. I’m Cimmorene and I’ll see you then.
This week’s post has been brought to you by Dragon’s Treasure Award winner, Vicki Davis, whose post about dealing with burnout by finding balance earned her a this weeks’ award. Congratulations, Vicki!
